ZeroTier is a smart Ethernet switch for planet Earth.
It is a distributed network hypervisor built on top of a cryptographically secure global end-to-end network. It provides the same level as an enterprise SDN switch, but provides advanced network virtualization and management capabilities by connecting both local and wide area networks and virtually any type of application or device.

This guide explains the design and operation of ZeroTier and its associated services, applications, and libraries. Its target audience includes IT professionals, network administrators, information security professionals and developers.


The first part (2) of this manual explains the design and operation of the ZeroTier at a high level and is written for those with at least intermediate knowledge of things such as TCP / IP and Ethernet networking. For most users, reading is not necessary, but understanding how things work in detail helps to clarify everything else and greatly aids in troubleshooting whenever there is a problem.


The remaining departments deal with distribution and management in a more concrete way.
